My car ran completely out of gas I put a little bit of gas in it it turns it turns over but it won't start

Well perhaps you didn’t run the car out of gas - it is quite possible the *inertia switch* was tripped to the off position - that automatically turn the fuel pump OFF until it is manually reset.
