With solenoid mounted to the fender .. The positive battery cable and other feed wires go on the big solenoid terminal that is *closest to the battery* .. The cable going down to the starter is the ONLY one that goes to the other big solenoid terminal that's pointing toward the firewall, away from battery .. The small wire with the slip on terminal goes to the small terminal that's marked S on the solenoid.... (Does it have TWO small slip on wires?)
theres the two fuselink 14 ga then a red and blue and brown and green.. the red and blue I had hooked up on the S. brown and green wasn't never hooked up... the problem is when I hook up all connectors to solenoid, and place battery terminal back the car turns without key in.... and does anything goes on the I terminal on the solenoid?
Using a 12 volt test light, find the small wire that has battery power on it when a helper turns the key to start .. That's the one that goes to the S terminal .. the other small wire goes to the I terminal..... The way it is now, you have battery power going to the S terminal anytime battery cables are hooked up, that won't work... I am assuming you have a 'new' solenoid(?)
I did exactly what you told me, and u were right,., that's my guy,, this been a living nightmare, thanks to you,,, I really really really appreciate you and repair pal.. I will be back for any mechanic questions... thanks, pushrod
U welcome.
ok solved that problem now theres one more.... the alternator wasn't staying charged so I changed the alternator... I didn't pay attention to the hookups and before I do attach everything back together I want to do it correctly before I fry something... ok on the alt theres the battery(bat)-red, ground(grd)-a small stud, and I'm guessing field(fld) -white and starter-black(sta)... the wires labeled with colors but the black one on the alt says starter... exactly how do they hook up...
