I HAVE HAD 5 ALTERNATORS PUT ON THIS CAR. IT ONLY HAS 63,000 MILES. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM

I talk to a mechanic and he told me the ground wire coming off of the battery terminal to the block is made of aluminum and they dont last. He told me to replace the wire with a copper wire and to put a brass washer were it connects to the block. He said this will take care of all of the problems with your alternator and battery because the bad ground is causing your the diodes in the alternator to go bad which in turns causes your battery to go bad and causes your light to flicker.
I have the same problem I changed 2 alternator in 3 weeks , and today my car died on my driveway. If you find what was the problem with your car, please let me know, i am desperate cause I spend a lot of money and the same problem is coming back over and over again. Please send me a mesage to simonamathe@yahoo.com. Thank you.
I know on alot of the cougars there is actually an inline fuse between the alternator and battery I would check to see if the fuse is blown, just follow the wire to the back side of the engine and you should see it. It will be located in a box. Get a multi meter and perform an ohm's test on it, it may be your problem.
I own a 2002 cougar, 2.5 L, 6 cyl for 10 years now. She definetly has a mind of her own. She would run fine, then once heated up she would lose power, spit and sputter. Replaced alternators, batteries ect. Put alot of money into this car and couldn't figure out why it was still running terribly. Well after replacing alternators, batteries ect, came to find out it was all due to a $8.00 inline fuse.
IVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM OVER THE PAST YEAR AND HATE DOING THIS JOB!!!!! ANYWAY THE LAST TIME I CHANGED THIS ALTERNATOR I ALSO CHANGED THE FUSE AND LINK WIRE THE WIRE IS 4 GAUGE FROM ALT TO BAT AND THE FUSE IS 175A.....I ALSO CHANGED THE LOCATION OF THE LINK WIRE BECAUSE IT WAS BURNING OFF ON THE ENGINE BLOCK AND SHORTING OUT.....IN ADDITION I CHANGED THE HARNESS FOR THE ALTERNATOR AND SO FAR SO GOOD.....TIME WILL TELL HOPE THIS HELPS...
Well there was a recall on that something to do with the positive so when u buy ur sweet ass cougar they give you exactly 10days from when u put it in ur name to take it up to a dealer and have it changed for free also I hate to say it but these cougars seem to have electrical issues often if u burned up 5 alternators you probly have a power surge some were
