I have a spring compressor but im not sure how to assemble the strut and spring after i have the spring compressed ive watched several videos but they all have different assemblies there is no top piece that wiil keep the whole thing together so i can take the compressor off before i put the whole assembly in (strut and spring) Its is a 2001 mercury cougar 6 cylinder
What makes this problem better or worse?

Hello, this is a potentially dangerous job to undertake without experience and knowledge. A strut assembly consists of the strut / shock absorber, the coil spring, and the upper bearing plate / mount. So, saying there is "no top piece" is not accurate...and leads me to strongly advise against doing this work yourself, as you risk serious injury.
