Trans won't change gear up or down drives only in drive gear but won't switch

Drove vehicle from Amityville long island to Philadelphia PA in one gear drive,,rev 6000 rpm without redlining. Won't switch gears up or down 3 hr. drive back to Philadelphia is it sensors or what. Start up fine everything works. No strange noises or sounds
