can a faulty centrifuge cover oil seperator cause a high pitch sqeel sound?

2014 ML350. When engine warms there is a high pitch sqeel (engine light came on) sounds like a faulty belt but dealership telling me a faulty centrifuge cover (oil separator) causing the problem? Does this sound right?
