What does the double wrench sign with -5400 on the odometer mean for 2005 ML 350

I followed the car manual to reset the service light but it refused to go off. Is there any other way to do this?

Move ignition key to position "2". Within the first 4 seconds after moving the ignition to position 2, press the reset button for the trip counter twice within one second. The display for the service request will be activated for about 10 seconds. Within these 10 seconds, move the start switch to position "0". The service request should continue to be displayed. Press the reset button for the trip counter and keep it pressed while moving the start switch into position "2" again. Continue to hold the reset button for the trip counter pressed down until the signal sounds and a new start distance appears in the display (it takes about 10 seconds).
