What is your question?
My 2002 ML 320 with 107,000 miles started acting really strange a week ago. Just had an oil change and checked transmission fluid, said it was fine, good color, etc. Put vehicle in reverse, it moved about a foot or two then abruptly stopped as if I hit something. I put it in park, got out and checked and nothing was behind me. Put back into reverse and it moved fine. This has happened intermittently now about 4 more times, most recently today. I have done all maintenance on time.

Your Mercedes has disc rear brakes that have brake shoes inside the rear brake discs that operate the parking brake, it hard to guess without experiencing the problem first hand but it sounds like it could be a possibility that it is the parking brake that could be the issue. a broke return spring or such. Would love to hear what you actually find is the problem.
Okay - it happened again, and this time, based on your comments, I tried something different. This time, after the car abruptly came to a stop in reverse, I left the car in reverse, put on the parking brake and then released the parking brake. When I hit the gas, the car reversed normally. So, now the mechanic is rechecking the braking system and parking break to see if it could be a bushing or damaged control arm or something. Can you provide any advice that I could pass on to him? Thank you
I have 2001 ML320. Same exact thing is happening to me. Could it be transmission, or brakes?
