have you tried a brake lamp switch and or check the fuses and relays ??

my ml430 did samething it would not go ingear,i replaced breaklight switch its right above your toes when you press the breaks undo black cover 3or 4 screws then youll see switch very easy to change not expensive at all part cost me less $40 dallors at m dealer
