If it showed full on an over the counter can of hope don't trust it, a lot of the after 1998 if not before vehicles will have to have the compressor manually engaged to even get a reading, or an actual AC machine, then some certifications behind it to tell you what's wrong, air conditioning is complicated, don't make it worse. Simple evac and charge in my shop is about $140, likely up to $250 elsewhere, pay it, you'll be glad you did in the long run.
You would need to determine if the AC clutch is engaging. If not, trace the electrical circuit to find out why. If so, you would need to know the high & low side system pressures. Any abnormality in system pressures should lead to the root problem. If pressure are ok, the problem may be in the dash - test the temp & mode door operations
...forgot to mention - scan the HVAC module for trouble codes also - this may lead to the root of the problem
