You'll need to pull the center console out to see what has been damaged. You should take this to a Mercedes shop and get it looked at.

You have shorted out the SHIFTING INTERLOCK MODULE,,I did the same thing,,and it was costly,,by the grace of God i wont make this mistake again,,i carry a towel in the car if i am drinking anything,,,know it sounds extreme,,but i learned an important lesson about an e320 2001 .I shorted out the transmission shifting module also,,i was not kidding abouth the towel,,this is the most expensive repair i have yet to make on my car,,,two items,,SHIFTING INTERLOCK MODULE,,AND TRANSMISSION SHIFTING MODULE,,OUCH,,
