Do you know what code is stored when the Check Engine Light comes on? I am not familiar with Mercedes but can help if I knew what code was stored. When the Check Engine Light comes on valuable information is stored to pin point the exact engine parameters that occurred when your car's computer first turned on the light, and god scan tools hooked into the 16 pin diagnostic socket under the dash of your car can read live data with the engine running or the car being driven when interpreted correctly saves a lot of time diagnosing what is wrong. this should be an easy task for the Mercedes dealer, or any independent Mercedes repair shop.
The front Cats are subject to going bad, esp. if you run regular fuel. This will impact your ability to accellerate when at full operating temp.
