What is your question?
My key won't turn in the ignition to start the car but my steering column isn't locked so what's causing the key not to turn to start the car?
What makes this problem better or worse?
This has only happened once before and my husband got the key to turn in the ignition by accident and he forgot what he did
How long has your 2000 Mercedes-Benz CLK320 had this problem?
Only twice

Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your CLK320. When the key doesn't turn in the ignition, it could be caused by a worn key or ignition lock cylinder. Sometimes, wiggling the steering wheel gently while trying to turn the key can help if the steering lock mechanism is binding, even if it doesn't feel locked. If that doesn't work, it may be time to consult a trusted auto repair shop near you. If you need more advice, have any other questions about your vehicle, or would like to get connected to a RepairPal Certified shop near you, we have you covered.
