Oil in coolent reservior what are the posible issues

What is your question?

What are the causes of oil getting into the coolant reservoir. Short of replacing the engine what should I have checked first. My mechanic doesn't think it's a head gasket, and has recommended a engine replacement.

You must check the oil cooler first on this model. It has a transmission oil cooler built into the radiator that can leak and an engine oil cooler right next to the oil filter housing that can leak. Rule those out 100% before replacing the engine. Alex
