Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Ah, the elusive Mercedes drive cycle—harder to find than a parking spot at the mall on a Saturday. While Mercedes doesn’t publish an official drive cycle for the 2004 C230 (or C240, since they share similar systems), you can usually get the monitors to set by following a general procedure that mimics real-world driving. Start with a cold engine. Let it idle for about 2–3 minutes, then drive gently at city speeds (25–35 mph) for about 5 minutes. After that, take it on the highway and cruise steadily at 55–60 mph for 5–10 minutes. Then coast down to a stop without braking hard. Repeat this cycle a couple of times, and avoid sudden acceleration or braking. Make sure your fuel tank is between 1/4 and 3/4 full, and don’t reset the battery or clear codes during this process, or you’ll be starting from scratch.
