can a muffler be clogged?

Make sure the exhaust is not bent or damaged to the point where it restricts exhaust flow enabling exhaust gasses to exit the engine. The catalytic converter can plug up but I would imagine you would havre a Check Engine Light on if engine performance is comprised.
