the Mercedes power steering fluid (000 989 8803) is simply dexron III transmission fluid without the red dye. so, you can use this safely and buy it anywhere.

I too was worried about brand name power steering fluid on my 2000 C230 and so I went to the dealer for the "real" stuff.
