How to replace the hood release tab on 1996 c220

What is your question?

The tab that sticks out from the grill that extends out through the grill when u pull the hood release inside the car snapped off. I purchased the new part from the dealer which consisted soley of the plastic tab the you"re supposed to pull to open the hood. It seems like the old one is riveted to the rest of the mechanism. Need to know how to remove and replace that tab without disturbing the rest of the mechanism
