My Mazda wont drive but other gears drive fine why?

My 2002 Mazda Tribute will not go into drive mode unless I rev it up, but sometimes it won't even drive, but I can put it into Reverse and 1 and 2 just fine and will take off I need to Know what's going on with it because this just started to happen last night out of now where please help

What makes this problem better or worse?
