Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! A transmission that refuses to find Drive or Overdrive and screams along at high RPMs in second gear is basically your MPV's way of saying it's done playing nice. This sounds like it could be a shift solenoid failure, a transmission control module issue, or possibly a damaged valve body that's preventing the transmission from moving through its full range of gears. The fact that manually shifting makes things worse is another clue that something is broken internally rather than just a simple sensor or fluid issue. Speaking of fluid, if it hasn't been checked recently low or burnt transmission fluid can absolutely cause this kind of behavior on an older vehicle. A proper diagnosis with a transmission scan and fluid inspection would be the smart first move here. Visit RepairPal.com to find a trusted shop in your area!
