they explained that the pads and rotors are one piece and MUST be replaced together. they also told me that I had another 5,000 miles until I needed to have this done. It really does not make any sense. Are the pads and the rotors attached ?? Fro the most part I am satisfied with the Mazda.

When replacing the front brake rotors (because they have become warped or have been machined to a point where they can not be re machined) it is best to replace the brake pads. It allows a new "flat" brake pad friction surface to contact a new "flat" brake rotor surface to generate better braking efficiency. The brake rotors are approx. $112 each ,the brake pad set is approx $70 and labor to replace everything approx 1.8h. This may be a good time to also flush the brake fluid if it has not been flushed in the last one to two years.
