Depending on the miles and if its a zero tolerance engine the belt could have slack in it you need to get checked cause if it break will driving you could bend a valve.

this motor has hydraulic lash adjusters. one or more may be stuck. if the noise is lower and in the front of the engine, it could be a bad timing belt tensioner. no worry if the belt breaks or jumps, the mazda motor is NON interference
