How do I get it to turn off?
This is a problem that needs to be looked at quickly. The light is not turning off because the wiring harness has a short in it, allowing current to flow even with the lights off, because the tail light circuit, which controls the license plate light, is probably shorted to the brake light circuit, which is always live. A qualified mechanic should look at this immediately, as a short can cause a fire and destroy the car.
Are 'ANY' other lights staying on??... With the headlights turned on, do BOTH tag lights work??
Thank you for your reply. No other lights are staying on when the car is turned off. The right license plate light is now not working at all.
That's a strange one for sure... Good luck with this!!!!!.. It's most likely going to be shorted to battery 'power' that feeds the trunk light switch..which has power at all times. The tag light circuit must be open form the original light circuit... OR... ALL park lights would be on!.. Let us know the outcome.
Thank you for your reply. My husband took the bulb out last evening because I was afraid it might wear out my battery. I can have this repaired on Monday. Do you feel it is safe to drive until then?
Probably. I'm guessing you'll blow a fuse if it shorts to a ground wire.
