It is on top of the heater and A/C plenum. When I have done these at a Mazda Dealership, I had to remove the whole dash, AND I had to open up the heater box, because the blend door gear would strip as well. I hope that they made some improvements by 2008 to this very time consuming job that is a somewhat common failure on these vehicles.
