Truck does not start, no starter crank noise, good battery.

Vehicle was working fine one minute, parked, turned off, tried to start again, would not crank and no starter noise. Battery is new and strong. Tried jiggling shifter for possible faulty neutral switch, but no help. Suspect the starter or solenoid. Is there any way of testing starter without taking it off and putting on a tester. While it is still on the vehicle? Please advise? Thank you. pat
