Why automatically condemn the switch as the culprit? Highly recommend throughout *hands-on* testing of all possibilities to prove what has actually failed before parts replacement!! I’d start with the FUSES.. GOOD LUCK!
Thank you for your reply, Unfortunately there are no fuses that are associated with the reverse lights/backup circuit on an 06' Mazda 6. Everything I have found online so far regarding this issue addresses the reverse switch replacement on a manual transmission. Not sure if an automatic has a different method of activating a reverse signal to lights? There is currently no power to reverse lights connectors with vehicle started and placed into reverse. Thanks again for your response.
That would be the responsibility of the PARK / NEUTRAL SWITCH .. Also know as the RANGE SELECTION SENSOR .. This component will be mounted on the transmission at the shift linkage - *hands-on* circuit testing required .. A wiring schematic is an invaluable aid for testing purposes! While closely observing reverse lights - have a helper move shifter back and forth slightly to see if lights respond ‘at all’ - IF so - let me know... Again - GOOD LUCK !
Hi, Thanks again for your response. I did as you suggested and had a helper move the shift selector through all positions "slowly" and did not see any reverse lights action at all...not even a blink.
It is not that uncommon for BOTH bulbs to fail - one may have failed some time ago and the other later on - highly recommend closely inspecting the reverse light bulbs - maybe even ‘replace’ one of the bulbs for testing purposes. Beyond that - enlist *hands-on* assistance from qualified personnel for further testing as this will require proper tools and testing procedures.
