What is your question?
I have a 2005 Mazda 6 Sport with roughly 215000 miles on it. Currently having an issue with my catalytic converters (rough idle, poor performance, etc) I took it to my mechanic and they want 1500 to replace them. I need this car to only last me 6 more months so I can have the money for a decent down payment on a newer car. Is it possible for me to drive it for 6 more months? I drive 12 miles a day on it total to work, and I don't live in a state the requires emissions tests. I really don't want to pay to have this repaired if I can avoid it, but I'd also like the peace of mind that my car won't explode on me or something if I drive it.
How long has your 2005 Mazda 6 had this problem?

Hello, whereas the catalyst does not appear to be working properly based on the trouble codes -- make sure you have the testing performed to ensure that the catalyst is actually inefficient, instead of a sensor or processor issue. A measurement of pre and post cat oxygen sensors for comparison will tell you much about the function of your converter. If it ends up being the converter, then technically it will not affect engine performance negatively. However, environmental impact is increased of course.
In case this hasn't been done - recommend testing the 02 sensor fuse - located in the engine compartment fuse box.
