1997 Lincoln town car. Please tell me the option I have to fix this with long lasting effect, the cheapest, and the easiest way to fix it. (doesn't have to be all 3 just get close enough). The only thing I've changed is the neutral safety switch within the last 1-2 weeks. If e put the car in neutral at all the then back in park to start it just won't and we tried everything. ECC box does make a strange click sound but I haven't questioned it.
Check for proper BRAKE LIGHT operation > possible blown fuse OR failed brake light switch..
Also possible wiring problem to the brake light switch.
It appears for some reason the gear shift lever release doesn’t know the brake pedal has been depressed so it will not come out if park - - that is usually a brake light switch / circuit related problem.
This can also be due a mechanical failure within the steering column.
Let me know what you find out about brake light operation.
Good luck!

Did you have any luck with it yet?
Not yet but now it won't start at all. (just stating)
You replaced the park / neutral switch - it may need to be adjusted. Try starting in neutral - move shifter back and forth while HOLDING KEY TO START.
