ABS KICKS IN WHEN DRIVING
2 Replies
Too many possibilities... ABS scan test required... Most any good independent shop should be able to do this test.
Foxx1962, The ABS is engaged at all times! It's only used when needed. If you're referring to the "anti-lock braking system" I don't believe it is capable of doing what you describe. If you mean that the dashboard light goes on & off, that won't do any harm. This comment needs clarification. It's much too vague. Are the brakes engaging without the brake pedal being depressed? That's what is sounds like you are saying. Is this happening while your cruise control is on & active perhaps? The ABS only engages when the pressure in the brake system increases which only happens (under normal conditions) when the brake pedal is depressed & the system senses a loss of traction at 1 or more of the wheels. Looks like pushrod is steering you in the right direction (huh?)! My last car's ABS went out & my mechanic said the brakes would still function normally, minus the "antilock" feature (which cars never had before, anyway) until you take it in for repair. Good luck!
