my 2008 navigator was hit on the left front wheel by another vehicle.

Alignment is off Check for damage parts such as lower control arm,sway bar and links,tie rods, rack and pinion,struts, wheel etccc....

it sounds like they may have broken the bolt off of the rack and pinion allowing the rack to move! have the vehicle inspected for damaged steering components such as the rack or steering gear box, tie rods, ball joints, control arms etc.
