The Navigator is not a bad truck - if it has been maintained well. You didn't mention the miles or history of the vehicle -- any vehicle of age that may have a spotty maintenance record would be in question. Things to be aware of: Air suspension compressors can fail, the relay can fail as well. This would cause the air suspension to not raise and lower the vehicle as necessary upon failure. The cylinder head gaskets can leak oil externally. Not a huge deal, just be aware. The transmission is the 4R100 -- not a bad unit for this application, but MUST be maintained. Fluid and filter changes every 30,000 miles. Also if the truck has ever been used for towing, beware for possible extra wear to the transmission and powertrain in general. Power window switches are a succeptable to failure. Tune up items -- change your spark plugs every 50,000 - 60,000 miles. If it hasn't been done, have it done first. Have it done by a pro familiar with this vehicle. Change the coil boots at the same time. It's a must. I have had one since new in 2003. It has been nothing but a money pit even with the extended warranty. If you decide to purchase have the suspension system checked over very well as well as the head gaskets for leaks. They have a well known problem with the heads and the head gaskets that can cause in excess of $4k to fix.
I have a 204 Navi and the most costly and biggest problem is the air suspension. $2300 to fix it all at the dealership and the biggest problem is that their arent any warranty companies that cover it.. I havent gotten a 2nd opinion yet but I plan on it. I havent had any problems really, but somebody stole my side door panel and it cost $300 at the dealership. Other than that.. no problems, great ..Good luck!!
Thanks for the quick response. It has 93000 miles and I plan on taking a long distance trip as soon as I purchase it.
Enjoy it! Just know that it may be a good idea to have a quick look at the truck before embarking on your trip. You certainly do not want your first experience with your Christmas gift to be a challenging one! Happy Christmas.
