Hello, This is likely your A/C compressor knocking. They normally will knock loudly at first, then quiet down after a few seconds. There may still be a tapping present, but not audible from outside of the engine bay. I would recommend having it diagnosed sooner than later. If the knocking is inside the car, let me know.
The same thing for my Lincoln MKS. But the knocking sound is inside the car at the front passenger compartment. It disappears after few knocks. Sometimes comes back but disappears again after few knocks. What could that be?

Hello, The knocking sound in the front passenger floorboard is likely a blend door or mode door actuator which is malfunctioning. Blend doors blend hot and cold air together inside the duct so you get the temperature you want, and mode doors move the air to different locations (vent, floor, defrost, etc..). It is trying to identify its position and cannot, or it is moving too far and retreating over and over, or it is recalibrating. Either way, you will have to have it tested and probably replaced before it stops that.
Thank you. Any idea how much does it cost when I bring it to the dealership? Thanks.
