Is the replacement of the rear pads and rotors too difficult a job for home repair?

You may have to 'rotate in' the brake caliper piston. ( usually clockwise) This is for the parking brake which is integral or inside each rear caliper.
Not at all. All you need to do is to remove the brake caliper and pads off of the old rotor, it is usually two bolts and then slip the old rotor off. sometimes you might need to tap it with a hammer but it will come off.
