How do I test ignition coil when not installed? I have fluke meter! Better way?

The neg lead to the post and pos to the plug end?

if there is only one post on the coil then put -lead to ground and pos lead to coil post but most coils have two posts and you just hook one lead to each post it doesnt matter which one is which. !!!
