Lock your door from the inside. Manually unlock the door and try opening it from the inside. Do the same from the outside. Try every variation of locking and unlocking. My door wouldn't open either and once I tried all the variations, it worked. However, I did have to replace the handle once because the handle did break. So it could be either.
