What is your question?
I took my car in for an oil change and they said it wouldn't pass inspection because the drive shaft needed to be replaced. What is this, and what would cause it to need to be replaced?

The description doesn't sound accurate, there is no power steering drive shaft. There is a power steering fan belt, a shaft from the steering wheel/steering column to the steering rack, vehicle is too new to have problems with that shaft but if the shop was honest they just didn't describe the problem well to you, if in doubt get another opinion.
SOUNDS LIKE BULLSHIT TO ME, BRING YOUR CAR IN TO OUR SHOP AND WE WILL RUN YOUR STATE INSPECT FOR $39.75
