Hello, a transmission that won't shift into Overdrive gear is not going to cause it to "get hot" -- the engine temperature will maintain properly regardless if it's functioning as it should.
All that to say - electronic transmission testing is required to see what is being commanded and what is actually happening.
And, engine cooling system testing should be performed to find out what is going on there too. There are multiple reasons a cooling system could malfunction - when does the engine "get hot" most often -- under what conditions?
