Why the check engine light remains on after repairs made?

I got codes for knock sensor bank 2 bad. I replaced both sensors and wiring cable not once, but twice. First time mechanic used aftermarket sensors. OEM wiring harness. Light went off for aprrox 5 mins. then back on. 2nd time two weeks later had both knock sensors replaced along with wiring harness. All OEM parts. Again check engine light came back on the next day. Took it back to the shop. Senors tested..grounds tested all good. Everything pointing to ECU. This is what I am being told $2400.00 later. Car seems to run great, will not go into overdrive. I am told to look for new ECU.
