What is usualy the cause for engine light to come on?

You need an oil change most likely. Check the oil and fluid levels, or you have a combo of dirty fuel filter and emissions / tail pipe issue. Has to do with emissions valves if it keeps coming on for no reason. Course it could also mean your car is out of fluids, your radiator is busted and now you need a head gasket job... just happened to me this week. Cheers!
