why does my car smell like gas

It hard to guess without being able to smell the where the leak is coming from or look for fuel stains. Is the smell from the front or rear of the car. If it is a pressurized leak it could be a real safety hazard. It cold be a leak at the fuel rail, a leaking injector, what ever it is it is important to get this looked after. It could cause a fire or premature failure of the Catalytic converter if the gas is being burned in the engine.
