Hello, I’m Pete from the Car Genius team at RepairPal. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this concern on your Lexus GS300. Fault code P1780 generally indicates a fault internally with the park neutral switch/sensor, even if it is operating properly the signals the computer sees from this sensor can be erratic which can cause this code to set. The first thing I recommend is to have the wiring inspected leading to and at the switch/sensor itself including the connections to see if any issues are found. If found to be o.k. then the switch/sensor should be checked to make sure it is properly aligned/adjusted. If these are all found to be o.k. and if every shift detent on the transmission itself is working properly and holding and if your transmission is operating properly then it is likely that the switch/sensor itself will need to be replaced. Before having it replaced though it is a good idea to have it checked to make sure it is the cause.
