Dash lights go out when the head lights come on. What is the fix.

check your owners manual see if there is a way to dim your dash lights. my 88 Pontiac does the same thing when I turn my head light knob one direction it dims my dash lights it can turn themall the way off. when my head lights are off the dash lights brighten back up again. Good luck.
