Lock button works when i use a screwdriver and bypass it. what causes it to lock up? never happened before.

There is a solenoid that releases the shifter lever from park when the brake pedal is depressed. So it can be the solenoid or can be the brake pedal switch.

thanks. i can bypass with a screwdriver, but does the problem itself suggest there is some other problem(s) with the transmission or something else?
