Should rear struts be replaced as often as front struts?

On average I would say I replace more front shocks than rear which I guess would make sense, the engine and transmission is in the front (most weight) and every time you brake you have weight transfer forward so I guess the front may work harder. The ES300 suspension is a little "soft", new shocks may improve the car a lot.
