do the pistons on the calipers screw in as there being depressed or do they just push in with a caliper tool

Front caliper pistons push in, open the bleed screw to release pressure as the piston is pushed in and allows "dirty" fluid to be expelled at the caliper not be pushed up into the brake master cylinder. The rear emergency brake is inside the rear brake drums using a separate set of brake shoes so the brake caliper pistons in the rear should just push in when replacing the rear pads on the 2WD Kia as a car manufacturer put a lot of great technical information and work shop manuals on line for free for Kia owners. www.kiatechinfo.com
