What is your question?
My last oil change appointment resulted in the service adviser explaining that I had a tiny oil leak from my valve cover. It would need to be addressed soon. Also, that the entire Timing Cover had to be removed to do it so the repair was going to be $2000.00. Interestingly, I had gone a little longer than normal between appointments this time, thus had checked my own oil 3 weeks prior, no loss, still up to the line and clean. I haven't seen any evidence of leaks. I have put 122,000 miles on it since May 2015...all my miles, mostly highway. And I use the same dealer for service where I purchased it. I appreciate your input. - kb

Hello, it's unfortunate -- this concern would have been covered to 100,000 miles. Since you are beyond that, it's kind of a matter of what you would like to do, as costs come out of your pocket. A small oil leak may merit just watching for now. If it's really a "tiny leak", then perhaps it can stay that way for a while. Keep in mind that valve cover gaskets do not hold contents under pressure, but more "splashed" engine oil in the valve cover. If I was you, I would ask how bad the leak is on a scale of 1 to 5 -- with 1 being basically showing signs of wetness but oil not hitting the ground, and 5 is like full on leaking heavily. If it's a 1, I'd defer any repairs for now. Since you have been loyal to that Kia dealership, it would seem reasonable to ask them for goodwill assistance for your out-of-warranty situation. Good luck!
