After I place the car in drive and press the pedal it takes the car a few seconds to accelerate
What makes this problem better or worse?

Your car is equipped with the Mass Air Flow sensor. If this sensor is dirty and not measuring the air correctly entering the engine, it can also cause what you describe. The quick and dirty testing without a scan tool would be to unplug the sensor before starting the car. It will be located after the air filter. If it drives better, the sensor is most likely the cause. It can be cleaned with special cleaner with spotty results or replaced.
There really isn't a specific reset for the TPC nor do I think that's your issue. Start by checking your trans fluid level. If its low it can cause a delayed engagement. If that's ok you will need a full scan including looking at live data from the engine sensors.
