What is your question?
We purchased our 2008 Sorento (with less than 40,000 miles on it) a month ago. We had the check engine light come on and the ESC off light. We took it to get fixed and it worked for a couple of weeks. Yesterday the same thing happened on the highway AND I lost acceleration, too. VERY SCARY! Reading on the internet people recommend replacing the ESC/TCS module and/or the"throttle body assembly" and to make sure it is written on the work order the EXACT reason the vehicle was brought in and to check for a short in the fuse box. I was AMAZED that the same problems have been going on since 2006 with the Sedona. Unfortunately the light went away and now we have to wait for it to happen again and drive (as fast as the car will allow) to the repair person so they can (hopefully) scan the codes! I printed off all the information I could find about the problem to take to them when it happens again. Including the TSB #KT2009042201 that addressed the problem for(Vehicles produced prior to 4/1/2009).....Has anyone been able to find a fix for this that worked?

I have a 2007 Kia Sorento. I bought it used 6 months ago with only 44,777 miles on it. It drove perfect until I had the recalls done on it (i.e. the brake light switch & ECM upgrade). After I had the recalls done, my car began hesitating upon acceleration, and then began jerking or bucking occasionally when I was going between 30-45 MPH. But it was so infrequent I didn't worry about it. Then 3 days ago, my ESC OFF light came on, along with the check engine light, and I instantly lost power/acceleration. I could not accelerate at all. I had to pull over, turn the car off, and restart it. It drove fine after that, but I know it will happen again. Auto Zone read my codes & stated p1295 came up (problem with Acceleration sensor or throttle body). I've heard that the TPS sensor goes bad on Sorentos, but I believe that on the 2007, the sensor is part of the throttle body unit itself, and we cannot just replace the sensor (I could be wrong, but that is what I have read so far). Long story short, I am convinced that this problem I am having is connected to the ECM upgrade recall I had done, because the car ran great before I had it done. I think when they upgraded the software on the ECM, it messed something up with my PCM or TCM. Anyone else think this could be the problem?
I've had my 2008 Kia Sorento for almost 8 years now, I bought it used, and have had the ESC off problem the entire time. I have gone a whole year before with no problems, then all of a sudden it will do it again. It just started doing it again. Luckily I live very close to work, but it is still very frustrating. I have taken this vehicle on long, 500 mile, trips before and am always worried. I have taken mine in three times to be "fixed." I also took it in for the recall that kiakid2007 spoke about above, none of these "fixes" fix the problem. This problem has occurred more that three times, it will seem to resolve itself and not do it for months, then boom. It is inconvenient to take it in every time it happens...they look at you like you are crazy and don't fix it anyway.
I've had the exact same problem on my 2008 Kia Sorento the ASC switch has been replaced and that fixed that problem but I've also had another problem that has come up and it's linked to the SC switch it has nothing to do with the tail light switch that the other person was talking about it is your alternator going out it will do anything and everything I can to turn every light in the car on it will stop you from accelerating the car will drive for a mile and then die and then start up 15 minutes later it can also leave your lights on where there's no way to turn them off it's a mess and they have no idea what you're talking about when you take it to the dealership they found mine by mistake and it was the alternator they replaced but now not even a year later the alternator is being replaced again for the exact same problem get rid of your Kia Sorento and don't buy another one I'm trading mine in today as soon as I can get the alternator put on it
I ended up replacing my Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) and it solved the issue with my car going into limp mode (i.e. the ESC light comes on and immediately lose all power, cannot accelerate). I still have issues sometimes with my car bucking or jerking while going between 30-40 mph. I have to take my foot off the accelerator & then back on to get it to stop. I believe this may be an issue the the Accelerator Pedal Sensor, but I'm not sure. Replacing the TPS did solve my original problem though.
I have the same problem. Read multiple posts with the same problem. "A bad Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)." Many repairs on the same vehicles. KIA doesn't want to acknowledge that there is such a problem. Luckily, I got mine from Ford with a warranty. They have seen the same problems before. Sadly, there is no permanent fix, only Band-Aids. Count on the same problem again.
Sadly, I have the same problem. Kia in Austin says there is no recall and they charge $100 just to check on it. If you unplug the battery it temporarily fixes it. Auto Zone says they don't have the part and KIA is not doing a recall after years of complaints.
i have worked at a kia dealership for the last 14 years and there is a recall on the brake lamp switch ask them to look for the sc098 recall by your vin number
Hello, my daughter lives in Missouri and is a Senior in High School. I bought a 2008 Kia Sorento for her 16th birthday 2 years ago. She is saying now that the car does not shift. Her dad said that he can manually shift the car but it is not shifting automatically. The ESC OFF light is on. Is this the same problem? He took it to a Kia dealership in Kansas City and they want to charge $2,000 + labor to fix it. Is there ANYTHING that Kia has done to fix this know problem?? Would the Brake Lamp Switch SC098 recall you mention fix this particular problem? Thanks for any information you can give me!
it sounds like they believe the problem is in the transmission in your case
