Anyone know why a little plastic part w 3 wires costs $110 and putting it in which involves all of 2 screws costs $90?

This is the real answer. What you didn't pay up front for the vehicle you will pay in parts and labor in the long haul.
The Throttle Position Sensor has to speak directly to the computer that controls the engine, so it has to be very precise. It also has to be able to last in a very hostile environment, the under hood temperature gets to be 200-300 degrees, so the plastic is actually a very heat resistant material. A Throttle Position Sensor on a Toyota Truck can run $400-500 not installed, part only. As for the labor, why don't you do it yourself? The TPS should self-calibrate and you can clear the code by disconnecting the negative Battery cable for 2 minutes.Make sure that your key is out of the ignition! The dealer or shop is charging you for the shop scanner and the monitor test drive, but I think that you could do this your self. Who diagnosed the TPS in the first place?
I had same problem on my 2004 kia sorento. A TPS at local auto parts store costed $140. However, I found one on Amazon.com for $53. Installed the other day and it works GREAT. I highly recommend Amazon.com for replacemnent parts. They don't have everything like an auto parts store, but if you are lucky like me, you'll save big.
two screws $90. Still cheaper than being married. Sorry, the devil made me do it.
Dear backyard tech. I am appreciative that you are willing to spend your time trying to help. Unfortunately, there ar so many dishonest mechanics/shops out there it gives those of you who are honest a bad rep. As to why didn't I spend the $ up front for a better car - single mom, deadbeat ex, didn't have the upfront $ to spend. You don't happen to know any honest shops in the Chattanooga TN area do you?
Unfortunately that is the major problem in my industry. You need to start asking your friends of bad or good experiences of repairs that they have had done. If your new to the area that my be hard to figure out. You want to look for a shop that has some accreditations, like ASE, ASA organization affiliation. A major affiliation also with NAPA auto parts IE: NAPA Auto care center. Why do you feel you need a TPS? If you have any trouble codes that were retrieved what are they. If you want to contact me directly my e-mail address is swaths3644@mypacs.net.
