What would cause a gas pump to shut off prematurely?

What is your question?

Suddenly, every time I try to fuel my van the pump shuts off early and frequently. I can rarely get more than a gallon in before it shuts off, then I can continue but it still shuts off after only a few seconds. It hasn't accepted a full tank of gas in weeks now
